Karks.com began serving customers in Central Pennsylvania back in 1999 – but my career as a web designer dates all the way back to 1995. As a senior in high school, I was fascinated with this new-fangled way of accessing information known as the World Wide Web. This medium was taking the world by storm and quickly becoming a part of people’s daily lives. As you know, it’s changed the way we think, the way we communicate and the way we work.
After spending an un-healthy percentage of my free time online, I decided to learn how to create my own little corner of cyberspace. One of the great aspects of the Web is that there is indeed information regarding just about every subject and even in 1995 there was no shortage of help for aspiring webmasters.
So I tinkered around with my own website. I wrote music reviews and talked about my favorite television shows. Little did I know that my new hobby would soon turn into a career.
In the spring of 1996 I did my first professional website for The Sentinel newspaper in Carlisle, PA. The paper had recently gone online and I wrote to them hoping they would exchange links with me. They didn’t give me that link I was hoping for – instead we had conversations that would lead to a new job. I was hired to create a website for one of their advertising clients who wanted to get online. I spent the next few days working hard to make sure everything was perfect. I was paid $30.00 and a short time afterwards I was offered a full-time position. In fact, I am proud to say that I was the first full-time web designer in the history of the paper.
I spent just over a year at The Sentinel. From there, I went on to work for companies such as the former netImage of Camp Hill, PA and EZ-Online, also of Camp Hill. In 1999 I decided to take the plunge and go out on my own. Karks.com was born and has continued to grow each and every year.
My business was born out of my desire to not only be my own boss, but to offer a quality service at a reasonable price as well. I know that if you shop around, you’ll find my prices to be more than competitive and that the quality of my work is right there with the “big guys”.
I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best and brightest companies in Central PA including (but not limited to) Kessler Freedman, Inc., Cumulus Media Harrisburg, JPL Creative and Pealer's Flowers & Co. The overwhelming majority of my clients have continued to stay with me year after year. I’d like to think it’s because I can offer them a quick response time (usually within 24 hours), a reasonable price, valuable advice and high quality work.
So, now that you know a little bit more about me, I hope to learn a little more about you and your website needs. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have. |
